What Your Inborn DNA Can Tell You About Health

Your DNA doesn’t change — but how you live, how you eat, and the daily decision you make, can either amplify your strengths or reveal your weak spots.

Why DNA testing matters

Your DNA is your biological blueprint — a set of fixed instructions that determine how your body functions. Unlike your blood markers or microbiome, your genes never change. But how you express them depends on the choices you make every day — what you eat, how you sleep, how you manage stress.

The Nalagenetics Nutrigenetic Test and Life Ready Test translate that genetic blueprint into practical insights you can use:

  • How your body metabolises carbohydrates, fats, caffeine, and alcohol

  • Your natural vitamin and mineral absorption efficiency

  • How well your detoxification and antioxidant pathways function

  • How your genes influence stress, sleep, and inflammation

When I first took my own test, I realised I wasn’t “lazy” for struggling with afternoon fatigue — my COMT gene affects dopamine and stress recovery, meaning I need longer wind-down time after cognitive work. Understanding that changed how I planned my evenings — more magnesium glycinate, early journaling, less screen time.

What “Nutrigenetics” really means

Many people still think genetic testing is about disease risk. That’s outdated. Nutrigenetics is about how your genes interact with nutrients — and how to use that knowledge to eat smarter and age better.

Let’s take a few real examples from my coaching clients (shared with permission, anonymised):

Case

Genetic Finding (Tendency)

What It Explained

What We Changed

Outcome

Myself

Tendency toward low vitamin D, magnesium, omega-3, zinc, and selenium

Years of weak immunity, frequent fatigue, and poor recovery despite eating well

Prioritised fatty fish, magnesium glycinate, zinc and selenium-rich foods, vitamin D3+K2 supplement

Immunity improved, less post-viral fatigue, better sleep and energy

Client A (female early 40s)

Tendency toward inflammation and oxidative stress

Chronic joint pain, puffiness, and slow post-exercise recovery

Increased anti-inflammatory foods, omega-3, and curcumin; reduced refined carbs

Inflammation markers improved, less morning stiffness

Client B (male, late 40s)

Tendency toward higher fibrinogen level (blood viscosity and clotting potential)

Higher risk for vascular inflammation and sluggish circulation; persistent fatigue after stress

Added omega-3, turmeric, and regular movement; monitored blood pressure and clotting markers

Energy and circulation improved, fibrinogen levels stabilised

Client C (female, late 40s)

Tendency toward low iron, low selenium, low zinc, and high inflammation

Ongoing fatigue, frequent yawning, and low energy, with a family history of hypothyroidism

Introduced iron-rich foods, trace mineral supplementation, omega-3s, and inflammation control with curcumin and stress reduction

Energy level and focus improved within 6 weeks; fewer fatigue episodes

This is the power of personalised nutrition — no generic “eat healthy” advice, but strategies based on how your body actually processes nutrients.

What the “LifeReady Test” adds

While the Nutrigenetic test focuses on nutrition and metabolism, the Life Ready Test looks at genes linked to:

  • Sleep quality (circadian rhythm and melatonin pathways)

  • Stress resilience (HPA axis and cortisol recovery genes)

  • Exercise adaptation (muscle fibre composition, recovery rate)

  • Cellular ageing (oxidative stress, inflammation response)

  • Potential health and longevity risks

This test helped one of my male clients, age 45, who struggled with burnout despite “eating clean.” His LifeReady results showed low SOD2 antioxidant capacity and high inflammatory gene variants (IL6) — meaning he needed stronger antioxidant support and more recovery days between workouts. We added CoQ10, curcumin, and an evening mindfulness routine. His sleep stabilised and his blood pressure dropped in 6 weeks.

How to use your DNA results

🧩 Step 1: Understand your baseline

Your report is not a verdict — it’s a map of tendencies.Knowing your baseline helps you make preventive choices before symptoms appear.

🧠 Step 2: Personalise your nutrition

Adjust your macros, supplement stack, and meal timing according to what your genes say.

🌿 Step 3: Align your lifestyle with your biology

Work with your genetic rhythm, not against it. If your stress recovery is slower, you need more structured downtime, not more caffeine.

My takeaway

Genetic data is empowering — but only if interpreted with context. I’ve seen people become anxious after reading “risk” genes online, but the truth is, genes load the gun; lifestyle pulls the trigger. When you understand your biology, you can design your environment, routines, and diet to match who you are at the molecular level.

That’s how we make science human again.
