For years, I’ve been on a quest to understand the nuances of my health. Despite maintaining a relatively healthy lifestyle, there were certain aspects of my well-being that didn’t quite add up — high cholesterol levels, unexplained inflammation, and even kidney issues. These problems puzzled me, especially since I don’t drink, smoke, or consume much processed food. I knew there had to be underlying reasons, but they remained elusive — until now.
The Turning Point: A Full Longevity Test with Dr. Hisham
The journey toward uncovering the truth about my health began with a comprehensive blood test with Dr. Hisham (His Linkedin Profile), a longevity doctor known for his holistic approach to health. This test provided a wealth of information that began to unravel the mysteries behind my health concerns.
Cholesterol Levels: My blood test results revealed that my cholesterol was significantly elevated, with LDL cholesterol at 179 mg/dL and total cholesterol at 262 mg/dL.
Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and Homocysteine: The test also showed that my ApoB was 118 mg/dL and homocysteine was 11.1 µmol/L — both on the higher side. Elevated ApoB levels are a key marker of cardiovascular risk, and high homocysteine is associated with increased inflammation and a higher risk of heart disease.
Inflammation Markers: Another key finding was my C-reactive protein (CRP) level, which stood at 1.09 mg/L. While this is within a relatively low range, it still indicated some level of chronic inflammation that I couldn’t explain. Additionally, my erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was 19 mm/hr, at the upper limit of the normal range, further suggesting underlying inflammation.
Kidney Function: I was also concerned about my kidney health, as the tests showed signs of stress that didn’t align with my lifestyle. My ALT and AST levels were within normal ranges, but there were other subtle markers that suggested my kidneys weren’t functioning optimally.
These findings added to my growing concern about hidden health risks. Given my relatively healthy diet, I was puzzled — why was I so prone to cholesterol deposits and inflammation?What was driving these issues? Why was my body reacting this way when I was doing everything “right”?
The Surprising Genetic Factors Sabotaging My Health
Seeking Answers: The Nutrigenetics Test with Nalagenetics
Determined to find the root cause of these problems, I decided to take a nutrient genetics test with Nalagenetics. This test promised to uncover genetic predispositions that could be influencing my health in ways that weren’t obvious from lifestyle factors alone.
Cholesterol Predisposition: The genetics test revealed a predisposition to higher cholesterol levels, which suddenly made sense of my blood test results. Predisposition to B6 and B12 Deficiencies: I discovered that my elevated homocysteine levels were partly due to a genetic predisposition for deficiencies in vitamins B6 and B12. These vitamins are crucial for metabolizing homocysteine, and low levels can lead to its buildup in the blood, increasing the risk of inflammation and cardiovascular issues.
Kidney Concerns and Inflammation: Another critical insight was my body’s tendency toward inflammation and potential kidney issues. My genetics test suggested that I was more prone to these problems due to lower levels of essential fatty acids and a need for increased intake of anti-inflammatory nutrients.
Intolerances: A not so surprising finding from the genetics test was my predisposition to lactose and gluten (I have willingly cut it out half a year ago). These intolerances were likely contributing to my inflammation and digestive issues, even though I had considered my diet to be relatively healthy.

Discovering these genetic predispositions brought a sense of relief. I finally understood why my body was reacting the way it was — why I had high cholesterol despite a good diet, why inflammation was a persistent issue, and why my kidneys showed signs of stress. Now I can confidently explain to my family and friends why I simply cannot eat just like everyone else.
